Churches - religious buildings and Marianske Lazne

update 15.12.2023 | 10:34

In the times of its greatest glory, guests from different parts of the world came to Mariánské Lázně and therefore also guests of different religious beliefs. All of them, however, wished to attend services in their sanctuary. In Mariánské Lázně today we can also visit and admire the Roman Catholic church in Goethe Square, the Evangelical church in Square Mírové náměstí and the Orthodox church or the Anglican chapel in Ruská Street.

There was also a Jewish synagogue in Mariánské Lázně. However, in 1938, like most synagogues in the country, it met a sad fate. It was burned and destroyed by the Nazis during the so-called Kristallnacht. The site where the synagogue stood remains empty to this day. Across the park, in 2010, a memorial was unveiled to the Jewish inhabitants of the town who had to flee or were deported during the Second World War.
