The Hamelika lookout tower was built on the initiative of the town council by the builder Friedrich Zickler in 1876 as a romantic ruin of the fictitious castle of Marianske Lazne.
The Hamelika lookout tower is located on the hill of the same name at an altitude of 722 metres near the Panorama restaurant. The name comes from the German pronunciation of the original Czech word "Homolka". It is a cylindrical stone tower with a diameter of 5.5 metres and a height of 20 metres with a single viewing gallery, which is reached by a left-hand staircase with 100 steps. Originally, the lookout tower also had a view to the south and east. Unfortunately, this view is now obstructed by mature trees. Tourists can only see the view from the west to the north, i.e. the view of part of the spa area of Mariánské Lázně and part of the Bohemian Forest with the Dyleň peak. In the past, there used to be a telescope here, which could be used to observe more distant places such as the town of Cheb, Kynšperk nad Ohří or Planá. In 2006, the reconstruction of the lookout tower was completed, which also included the roofing of the viewing gallery (designed by Ing. arch. Zdeněk Franta). Currently, however, the Hamelika tower is again without a canopy due to vandals. In suitable conditions, especially in the evening, you can hear the tones of the Singing Fountain here.
1) On foot, by bike or by car from Street Anglická (from the San Remo Hotel) along Pod Panoramou Street. You can park your car at the Panorama restaurant. From there it is only a walk along the forest path to Hamelika.
2) Take bus No. 13 (public transport stop Centrum - by the Excelsior Hotel), by car or by cableway to the Krakonoš Hotel. From there, walk past the Boheminium Miniature Park, the Dane´s Grove, across the top of the ski slope (approx. 1 km) to the Hamelika lookout tower.
