Mariánské Lázně is home of the oldest symphony orchestra in the Czech lands - the West Bohemian Symphony Orchestra. Its history is connected with the beginning of the local spa and the year of its foundation is given as 1821.
During the symphony orchestra´s activity, many bandleaders, conductors and musicians have been replaced and the orchestra has undergone various changes. In 2001, the West Bohemian Symphony Orchestra became a public benefit corporation founded by the town of Mariánské Lázně.
The traditional cultural value and the high artistic quality of the orchestra are the reason for the growing interest of the public, whether spa guests or the inhabitants of Mariánské Lázně themselves, in symphonic music concerts.
Tickets for all concerts of the West Bohemian Symphony Orchestra can be purchased at the town´s information centre, the Kolonáda Information Centre, at the reception desks of spa hotels or one hour before the concert starts at the box office in the Casino Social House or at the Municipal Theatre in Mariánské Lázně. Students (upon presentation of a student ID card) and children under 15 years of age are admitted to all concerts organised by the West Bohemian Symphony Orchestra at a uniform rate of CZK 50. Holders of a disabled persons card have a 50% discount on admission to all concerts organised by the symphony orchestra. Concerts of the ZSO range in price from CZK 400,- to CZK 800,- per ticket.
