Lookout of Queen Karola

The slope between the cemetery and the Forest Spring is called Karola. As long as there was a viewing pavilion tucked away in the woods, it was obvious that Karola´s viewpoint and the Karola forest slope were related by name. The original circular lookout was named after Queen Carola of Saxony (* 5 August 1833, † 15 December 1907), an important visitor to the town. The pavilion disappeared sometime in the late 1950s. Only the foundations of large stone blocks remain of the pavilion. But even these were dug up and taken away in the late 1980s by unsuspecting people. Eventually, the platform was overgrown with weeds, and so only the name - Karola - remained of all the glory. The new pavilion of Karola´s Lookout with a breathtaking view of the Main Colonnade was built on the site of the original pavilion in 2005.

Traditionally, Saxon rulers came to Mariánské Lázně. King Frederick Augustus II of Saxony was also treated here twice. The Mariánské Lázně viewpoint Fridrichštejn is named after him. There is also an original memorial plaque with a Latin verse commemorating his fondness for botany.
